On the basis of the Dunhuang Manuscripts. Dunhuang Frescoes and archaeological excavation, integrating the classical books handed down from ancient times ,this thesis tries to make a systematic study on the funeral customs in Dunhuang from Tang Dynasty to early Song Dynasty, Which will help to understand the value of traditional funeral culture in China.This thesis is divided into two parts:The first Part will elaborate the specialty of the Dunhuang's funeral customs which is revealed in the Dunhuang Manuscripts, Dunhuang Frescoes and archaeological excavation. There are confusianism influence, Taoist scripture and folk customs in the Dunhuang's burial customs. The dunhuang's burial customs is directly influenced by Buddhology and adjoining ethnical conversaion. The burial customs is distinctive because Dunhuang's environment is unique where oriental culture is fused with Occident culture.The second part will mainly deliberate the Dunhuang's burial conception reflected by the Dunhuang's burial customs.The Dunhang's burial conception is about regarding life more important than death; admiring forebears; showing filial obedience; Buddhistic influence; believing in desting and so on .
