Vagueness is an inherent property of natural language. It is universal and inevitable in communication. Since Eubulides, a philosopher in ancient Greek proposed the sorities paradox which contained the idea of vagueness, vagueness in language has attracted more and more attention. After the publication of Fuzzy Sets by L. A Zahed in1965, the ideas in fuzzy mathematics are applied to the study of vague language. This deepened people's knowledge of vague langue enormously and inspired multi-dimensional researches on vague language. However, up till now, most studies on vague language have been oriented to theoretical researches. The application and interpretation of vague language hi actual communication.were almost ignored. This article, based on some theories hi context, mainly discusses the impact of speakers' intentions such as the intentions of being polite, observing the cooperative principle and indicating conversational implicatures and different registers such as journalism and scientific writing on the interpretation of vague language. Therefore, it arrives at the conclusion: vague language is not vague if interpreted in context It is not a defect of natural language. On the contrary, it is a strategy for speakers to communicate tactfully and successfully.
