Towards Pluralistic Perspective Of Art

Arthur C. Danto, one of the celebrated contemporary American philosophers, art theoreticians and critics, is now exerting a far-reaching and everlasting influence upon the art criticism in America's contemporary artworld by the means of his original insight, exquisite thinking, macro horizon of history and tolerant pluralism.In Danto's terms, art has entered a period of post-history that is characteristic of contemporary art world. Art in this very period witnesses a pluralist definition that anything is possible to be art. How does it take place in the contemporary art world? What is Danto's response and interpretation to his so-called post-historical art as art critic and art philosopher? The thesis will focus on such points to develop Danto's systematic art criticism and to present a brief appraisal of Danto's significance.
