CHogtu Hong Taiji is one of the six greatest feudal landowners of Halha Hagantu Ulus in the 1620s and 1630s. He not only possessed an important place in the history of Halha, but also had great influence on the history of Qing Hai and Xi Zang. Through studies on Chogtu Hong Taiji, we can make clear a number of significant matters connected closely with the factional strife among Buddhism early in the 17th century in Mongolian history. This research is significant for comprehending Mongolian history that had been affected greatly by Buddhism since the 16th century.Firstly, this paper expounds Chogtu Hong Tayiji Family and his status in Halha.Secondly, the paper generalizes the activities of Chogtu Hong Taiji in Halha period. And also a further discussion is given in the paper about the statement on the factional strife among Buddhism in Halha history and about the issue of relationship between Chogtu HongTaiji and Ligden Han.Lastly, the paper discusses several major incidents: (a) Chogtu Hong Taiji migrated into Qing Hai, and conquered the clans of Qing Hai; (b) Arsalan, the eldest son of Chogtu Hong Taiji, invaded Xi Zang; (c) the united army of Oyirad and "Halha Uriyangqai" defeated the army of Chogtu Hong Taiji. Last but foremost, the author of this paper makes inquiries into the reasons why Arsalan rebelled his father and went and sought refuge with Huang Jiao Pai, and the issue of the alliance between Huang Jiao Pai and Oyirad, etc. |
