On Translation Variation Of Social Sciences Translation

The social sciences translation of China is an awaking, struggling, and self-developing history with typical, oriental nations' characteristics. The pioneers have made great contributions to the enhancement and the prosperity of the special translation field. For thorough understanding of our great nation and the translation history, studies in this filed are especially important and necessary.With the rapid development of the society and the enhancement of the modern living standards, people are not constrained to many traditional things. Such is also the case for social sciences translation. More and more scholars begin to notice the diversified translation approaches which differ from the traditional complete translation. And the advocacy of the translation variation theory by Professor Huang Zhonglian marks the beginning of the systematic studying on the distinctive translation variation. More and more researches have proved the existence of the theory. But the practice of the theory is still in doubts.Hereby, this dissertation focuses on analyzing the practice and the applicable ranges of the translation variation strategies in order to illustrate the specific characteristics of social sciences works and social sciences translation. By investigating the connotations of the three-word principle, the author tries to confirm the pioneering status of Yan Fu in the social sciences translation. By comparing complete translation and translation variation, the author tries to conclude the intrinsic supplementary relationship between the two categories. By careful cases study on applying the twelve strategies, conclusions are made that all of them can be employed in the social sciences translation with different emphases under different circumstances and on specific social or target readers' requirements. And the limitations are presented for further discussions at the end of the dissertation.
