The paper makes an in-depth discussion on news translation from the point of view of ideology. News translation plays an important role in news transmission. However, it has attracted less attention than it demands and deserves, because most of the study on news translation concentrates on its linguistic aspect and the distinctive features of news, instead of the cultural aspect and even deeper layer of news translation. Thus the paper focuses all the attention on exploring the relation between news translation and ideology and the appropriate translation methods accordingly.Furthermore, the paper explicates the essential relationship between ideology and news translation via three theories: the theory of "news objectivity", Foucault's theory of "power/knowledge" and Andrew Lefevere's patronage theory, and thus demonstrates that the intrinsically close relationship destined to determine news translation is influenced by various forms of ideology and concludes that the impacts of ideology of news translation show mainly in two aspects, the selection of source news and that of news translation methods. The paper finally introduces four functional translation methods (techniques): abridged translation, translating and editing, translating with comments and condensed translation, to tackle the ideology problem during news translation.
