IThe purpose of this thesis is to reveal and illustrate the course of localization of jazz inShanghai by studying the context of its emergence, prerequisites of its evolution and the way ofthe combination of the elements of jazz music and of Chinese traditional music in this localizedprocess. And the scope of this research is confined to Shanghai as a specific locale.IIThis thesis features the reference of relevant monographs, comprehensive fieldwork, as wellas musical analysis.IIIThis thesis is intended to shed a light on the study of the localization of jazz in Shanghai, asthis subject is not yet covered in music research in the approach this project has presented.
