A Practice Report On The Software Localization

With the implementation of the strategy of globalization,the international requirements for products and services have continuously increased.It's required that companies make their products linguistically and culturally appropriate to the target locales(or language markets)where they will be sold and used.Meanwhile,the growth of the localization industry has made it much easier for software publishers to market and distribute their products in other countries.The practice report takes the Localization Project of Webcargo as an example,mainly introducing the analysis and preparation of the source material,the use of memoQ,the quality assurance for translation,and the software testing,which also takes into account of general translation principles for software localization.To be specific,the first part of the thesis is to introduce briefly the project background and the development of the localization industry.The second part is about the detailed process from the software translation to the localization testing,especially the treatment of the UI,the QA and the testing methods.The last part concludes the experiences and reflection from this localization project,which could provide reference to the methods of quality management in software localization.In brief,software localization includes the project management,translation,DTP,testing and modification.It could not only enable the simultaneous shipment of all language versions of the same software but also increase sales opportunities in target countries so as to promote the companies' international competitiveness.
