The Foreign Trade Of Shantou In The Later Stage Qing Dynasty (1860-1911)

The period from 1860 to 1911 occupied a unique position in the history of foreign trade of Shantou, which witnessed the flourishing of Shantou foreign trade. Based on the statistics from the annual custom report, this thesis makes a more detailed and precise statistic of the import and export of Shantou port in the period and reveal the economical and social influence of foreign trade on Shantou and its modernization. The main contents are showed in the following five aspects: Firstly, the survey of the import and export of this period; Secondly, the foreign countries and areas that Shantou traded with; Thirdly, the main import and export goods and the change of their mix; Fourthly, the general shipping situation and the shipping line; Fifthly, the influence of foreign trade on Shantou.
