A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of The Pronouns In Energy Transition Outlook 2019

In 2050,the maritime industry will be characterized by an increasing diversity in fuel choices.With a wider range of alternative and carbon-neutral fuels,traditional fuels and more established alternatives like LNG can find a place alongside.Energy Transition Outlook '2019 provides an independent forecast of how the future of maritime energy and energy transformation will affect the industry,which greatly updates the forecast for 2018.In this paper,the author takes a part of Energy Transition Outlook 2019 report as an example to analyze the translation of pronouns.There are great differences between English and Chinese.Chinese uses more nouns and English uses more pronouns.In the process of translating maritime texts,the author finds that there are a lot of pronouns used in Maritime English.In fact,the seemingly simple pronouns are difficult to translate.If the English pronouns are directly translated into the corresponding Chinese ones,it will easily lead to redundancy and ambiguity in the translated text,and it is hard for the readers to understand.Therefore,it is necessary for translators to pay more attention to the translation methods of pronouns while understanding the pronouns correctly.In view of this problem,the author sums up five proper translation methods to deal with pronouns in translation materials,including literal translation,amplification translation,omission translation,substitution translation and conversion translation,thus comes this practice report.Through careful study of maritime texts and accumulation of maritime professional knowledge,the author attempts to accurately and effectively convey the original information in this practice report by using appropriate translation methods and techniques,so as to achieve the functional equivalence between the original and the translated texts.It is hoped that it will be of some reference for maritime translation in the future.
