Burnout is prolonged response to chronic stress on the job, and is defined by the three dimensions of exhaustion, cynicism and inefficacy. It is used to describe as a series of negative symptoms, such as tiredness, ability descent, passion losing to work, and lack of achievement at work. Burnout is a new research in recent years. In China, the study of burnout began very late and has few practice study. In order to explore the applicability of the Maslach Burnout Inventory—General Survey(MBI—GS), and to know the differences of three dimensions of burnout in occupations and between occupations in China, we use MBI—GS surveyed enterprise employees ,teachers, doctors and civil servants in GuiZhou province. We presented some results according to the investigation and comparison: (1) MBI—GS have good reliability and validity ,it can be effectively survey burnout of different occupations in china. (2) At the total level, burnout of enterprise employers, teachers, doctors and civil servants isn't serious. In the four occupations, the score on the dimensions of exhaustion and cynicism is low, and the score on the dimensions of cynicism is high. Result of the effecting of gender, marriage, executive or not, age, length of service, education, type of job (type of school) and so on, the three dimensions of burnout are significant differences in the occupation. (3) There are no significant differences on the dimensions of exhaustion and cynicism between the above four occupations, but on the dimension of inefficacy, enterprise employees have significant lower score than doctors.
