The Influence Of Buddhist Scripture On Narrative Of Tang Dynasty Fiction

Indian Buddhism is one of the most important media to affect Chinese ancient thoughts and culture in early time .The Buddhism got spread by dictation, but the Chinese Buddhist Scripture didn't appear until the Eastern-Han Dynasty. During the period between the Jin Dynasty and Tang and Song Dynasty, the translation of Buddhist Scripture reached a climax, which leads Buddhist thoughts further to every field of literature. There were great uses of the Buddhist Scripture and its terms; in return, many literature works absorbed some essence of Buddhist Scripture. For example, Chinese classical fiction derived from Zi Shi (the autumn and spring period schools'and history classical works). Therefore, it was a mere appendage of Zi Shi during a long time. The transmission of Buddhism affected strange tales of the six dynasties, under the influence of which was the creation of fiction during the Tang dynasty. Thus, influence by the strange tales of the six dynasties and a large number of Buddhist Scripture. The Tang fiction became independent out of Zi Shi. In the meanwhile, the maturing narrative rulers of Chinese Buddhist Scripture showed active and profound influence to the Tang dynasty stories. The influenced Tang fiction gave birth to some types of stories, e.g. karma (retribution) type, parade-in-netherworld type, animal-repayment type, soul-off-body type and magic-change type; etc. in addition, the narrative structure, time, perspective and narrative purpose got changed accordingly in the Tang dynasty fiction stereotype. Such as the ring-shaped influenced structure by Karma. The false or true-proof structure, the embedded-in-continuity structure are the new products of Buddhist Scripture. Such the change of narrative time as the delay of narrative speed, the narrative analysis of cross time and the magic change of time all originated in Chinese Buddhist Scripture. First person and multi-perspective transmission and transfer are both popular in Buddhist Scripture, the mirror; ball and dragon have alien colors. The plot narrative model and new changes in Tang dynasty fiction show that Chinese Buddhist Scripture is a real big treasure house of literature.
