It is well known that translation is an activity of intercultural communication with a long history. Different people have different ideas about the strategies for achieving its best-desired effect. Some prefer domestication; others favor foreignization. In fact, they are not contradictory at all. What is important is how to make a scientific choice between them during translating process. This paper sets out to discuss the choice of them. After reviewing the two concepts, their theoretic basis and factors that affect the choice, the writer offers the opinion that a scientific, dialectical and dynamic approach accords more with the demands of cultural communication. Whether to adopt domestication or foreignization is determined by many complicated factors. Under the circumstance of cultural globalization, domestication and foreignization are supposed to complement each other. Thus the translation action can become more scientific.
