News English And Its Translation

Nowadays, in the highly-informative society, the relation between human beings and news becomes more and more close. People obtain a variety of news from newspapers, magazines, broadcast, TV and Internet. With the increase of cultural exchanges of the different countries, news English becomes increasingly important during people's communication. The increase of the cultural exchanges among different countries has seen the English journalism playing an more and more important role in people's communication.In recent years, the research on news style grows fast and has made achieved great progress. Consequently, it is not only a necessity for journalists to be engaged in research on news English, but also a benefit to English learners. Many English learners have realized that news English has special style features different from ordinary style English. It is hard to understand different types of news English without knowing basic knowledge and main features of news English. Moreover, the functions of news English lie mainly on sending messages and then attracting readers, in other words, the main functions of news English are functions of information and then persuasion. In order to ensure the functional equivalence to the original, special attention must be paid to the accurate translation of neologisms, vivid headlines and compact and brief leads. So far, there are plenty of problems such as over-translation and mistranslation in news English translation works.This thesis probes into the styles and characteristics of English used in journalism. the translation of styles and language characteristics of the special style (news English) in English language. This thesis consists of 8 chapters. Chapter 1 gives a brief introduction to the structure and content of the paper. Chapter 2 is the introduction of the news definitions, categories and some basic knowledge of news English. Chapter 3 gives three main parts of news: headline, lead and body, and their style features and contrast and analysis between Chinese and English for further translation research are dealt with separately. Chapter 4 introduces the basic translation theories and translation methods of news English. The following two chapters, playing an important role in this thesis, makes analysis of lexical and syntactic features, at the same time reveals the practical skills in news English translation. Lexical features and words translation in news English translation are involved in Chapter 5. On the basis of the syntax, Chapter 6 analyzes the news English and discusses the sentence translation. Chapter 7 concerns with the requisites for news English translators. Chapter 8 is the conclusion.
