With the increasing enhancement of China’s international status, the communication between China and other nations seems to be more significant and frequent. News, as a main tool to convey information and messages to the whole world, is an important way for the public to learn about the world, as well as a crucial way for nations to know each other. While due to language difference, the news translation draws more attention these days. Being a vital part of news, political news involves big events and problems of current society which is closely related to the public, and it has its own unique features, the author, therefore, makes researches into this field.This thesis is a translation report. The source texts are chosen from Politics of Washington Post. Being an informative text, news is written to convey accurate and objective information. Guided by skopos theory, the main purpose of this kind of translation is to take the understanding of target-language readers into consideration, translating in a way that they are familiar with and easy to accept. In this report, the author makes the analysis of many cases in detail, and put forward the specific translation skills.The report is composed of five parts. To start with, the author briefly describes the news translation, including its background and significance, as well as the structure of this report; in the second chapter, the author reviews what researches have done in this field, and gives the brief introduction of skopos theory; the third chapter describes the translation process, and makes the analysis of source text, including the definition, features, and structure of news, and analyzes the keys and difficulties of this translation. As the main part of this report, the fourth chapter analyzes how to deal with specific problems, involving words translation (terminology, metonymy, nominalization, buzzword and report words) and long sentence translation(splitting of long sentences and reorganization of sentences); the last chapter is the conclusion of this report, making the summary of the report, reflecting on this translation, pointing out the limitations of the translation, and giving some suggestions, which is beneficial to the learning and practice of news translation.
