Various cultures are gradually formed in the development of human civilization. Language, as a carrier of culture, also has obvious features of culture. In linguistic transmission, information in a language may not be identical with that in other languages, which is determined by features of the languages involved. In the process of translation, it is necessary for a translator to reserve the cultural features and aesthetic characteristics in the original as much as possible. Only in this way, can we make an accurate communication.Fortress Besieged, a novel by Chien Chung-shu, is very influential in China. Jeanne Kelly, an American scholar, cooperated with Mr. Nathan K. Mao, an English professor of Shippensburg State College, in translating Fortress Besieged. Their translation is as excellent as the original since they not only reserve the rhetoric features in the original, but also transmit cultural information perfectly with the idiomatic target language. In this paper, emphasis is put on transmission of cultural information in translating Fortress Besieged from the point view of intercultural communication. And cultural reasons for meaning loss and difficulties in translation of Fortress Besieged are analyzed as well. Therefore cultural information is an inevitable factor in translation, which must be fully considered for a good translation.
