Verb Reduplication is one of the most important grammatical phenomena in Chinese language. This article explores Verb Reduplication State from the diachronic viewpoint. Based on the mastery of the syntactic and semantic characteristics of Verb Reduplication, this article concentrates on reviewing its developments in different periods. It summarizes the characteristics of Verb Reduplication in different historical period, and draws its track of evolvement. The emergence and development of Verb Reduplication is a grammatical process: First, "—v ' " is influenced by the semantic characteristics of the verb " V" and becomes general and empty, which makes "V—v' " to be analyzed as a new form: "V—v". And then, under the common effect of semantics, pragmatics and context, '—' is omitted after another reanalysis: the' Vv' form comes into being.Applying frequency, medium, prosodic feature and other factors have influenced the grammaticalization process of Verb Reduplication to different degrees. The grammaticalization process of Verb Reduplication is accompanied with subjectivization, and under the effect of subjectivization, the meanings of Verb Reduplication are becoming diversified.
