Natural Language Understanding

This thesis is based on the theory of Hierarchical Network of Concepts (HNC). The theory is an important theory of natural language understanding. It has established a new model for describing and processing natural language. Semantic chunk and sentence category are the main contents of the new model. Semantic chunk is the semantic component of sentences; Sentence category is the semantic category of sentences,.The thesis expatiates the two kinds of association venations of HNC, lucubrates the semantic chunk and sentence category, designs the arithmetic of sentence category analysis in natural language understanding, and realizes the sentence category analysis system. The thesis particular introduces the main modules - semantic chunk apperceiving module, sentence category supposing and proving module, the analysis module of semantic chunk composing and intelligent attempering module. This thesis illuminates the method of establishing the repository of HNC. Experimentation has proved that the sentence category analysis system realizes the understanding of the simple sentence. If you input a sentence, the system will give the right sentence expressions.
