Gan Rulai(1684-1739), was born in Fengxin county of Jiangxi province. He was a writer in the prosperous times of Kangxi and Qianlong in Qing Dynasty. He experienced three emperors: Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong. He was once pointed Mayor of Taiping, Prosecuting officer of Zuojiang, Head of public security department of Guangxi province and Governor of Guangxi province. After that, he was once pointed personnel department minister and defense department secretary of Qing Dynasty. He was one of the most important department ministers of Qing Dynasty. He was an influential figure on the history of Guangxi at his times. He wrote the history of Guangxi province with other people and he wrote the history of Taiping city by himself. He contributed greatly to Guangxi province in aspect of economy and culture. However, the academia has paid little attention to his career and his works. It is historically and literally valuable to give a systematic study on his poems and prose collection——the complete works of the duke named Gan Zhuangke. This dissertation bases on the edition of Cifutang (Qianlong 56th year), referenced by other classic material. On comparatively and completely correcting and annotating this collection, the author deeply explored several aspects of the anthology, such as Gan Rulai's life career, Gan's thoughts, Gan's poems and prose, so as to make a comparatively scientific and objective and fair evaluation to the complete works of the duke named Gan Zhuangke.
