Media are playing a more and more important part in people's life, and media section names, the first windows to see the nature of a medium type, need translator's attention as the cultural exchange asks for the translation of media section names.Through the study of Chinese and American media, media sections as well as their names, some first-hand materials have been collected to facilitate the characteristic analyses of the section names largely from the points of physical lexes forms and figures of speech, as well as cultural influence and the development of American media section names.Translation of media section names is under the guidance of general translation theories and mass communication theories. The author suggests that the translation standard for media section names should be accordant with communication effect, faithful to the original section names and section content-oriented. Accordingly, 6 translation strategies are proposed for C-E translation of media section names and 4 for E-C translation.Meanwhile, some problematic translations encountered in the research are pointed out and better translation is provided for discussion.
