ObjectivesIn order to explore the mental health and personality of pilots working in civil aviation. To find out the featurescharacter of coping styles and their influencing factors is also our aim. And this will provide proofs for setting up mental files of airplane pilots and treating badness of mental health. MethodsAll the 98 pilots in the flying department of one company are investigated by SCL-90, EPQ (adult version), Questionnaire on Coping Styles, Trust Scale and a table for collecting general data. Instructions are unified, and time is limited in one hour. All the sheets are answered independently and taken back on the spot. ResultsScores of each factor and mean of the total in SCL-90 are lower than the national norm. Except the phobia factor, the comparisons between other factors are significantly different; The groups of mid-flying time, married, with cigarette and wine hobbies, and specialty have a worse mental health than their corresponding groups. Scores of many factors have significant difference .The comparison between aircraft commanders and copilots is not significantly different; N - scores and P- scores of the positive group in SCL-90 are markedly higher than the negative. They also get higher scores in the passive coping styles, such as self-blame, fantasy, avoidance and rationalization, but lower in the latitudes of trust, except predictability.
