The purpose of this thesis is to analyze Skopos theory and apply it to the Chinese-English translation of publicity pamphlets in order to solve the problems encountered by translators in translation practice.With the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy, the translation of publicity pamphlets becomes more and more important in China. Though great achievements have been made, many problems still exist in this kind of translation. In the light of Skopos theory, some translation strategies are put forward in this thesis after analyzing the characteristics of publicity pamphlets and the problems prevalent in the translation of them.Firstly, the author introduces the Functionalist Translation Theory, especially Skopos theory, and then the theory framework of this thesis is established. Secondly, the author analyzes the definition, categories and characteristics of publicity pamphlets as well as some elements which influence the translation of them. Finally, the translation strategies including addition, deletion, analogy and logical restructuring are listed after analyzing the problems existing in the translation of publicity pamphlets.
