By using qualitative research that is an ever-growing method in the research of social science, this research is a case study of the nine-week Columbia University Summer Intensive Chinese Training Program in Beijing, CIB.No phenomenon can exist in isolation. The actuality must have its longitudinal diachronic influences and transverse synchronic factors. In today's background of global promotion of Chinese language, if we want to improve Chinese teaching, and want Chinese to play a more important role on world stage, it's very urgent for us to investigate all the relevant factors in teaching Chinese as a second language. Only when we have a good understanding of the actuality of Chinese teaching in foreign countries, can we make the effective and right decisions in promotion of Chinese language. Therefore, in this research, we choose CIB as the research object. The researcher as an"insider", taught in the program, and at the same time, observed and recorded the important teaching events in details. Besides, we adopted other research methods, such as interview and questionnaire to collect the materials. And based on the analyzation and reflection of the materials, the operation model applied in CIB is presented. By compared with the intensive Chinese teaching in mainland China, some suggestions on our TCFL and the compiling of instructional materials are given. The main findings can provide reliable materials for research on intensive Chinese teaching in the future, and can help both administrators and teachers find problems, analyze problems, and solve problems.
