Wang Xiaobo is one of the most controversial writers in 1990s. Since 1980s, Postmodern Literature has not only influenced Chinese literature greatly, given birth to such anamorphosis of Postmodern Literature as Vanguard Fictions, New Realistic Fiction, Neo-Historical Fictions, etc., but also influenced Wang Xiaobo deeply. Wang Xiaobo is considered to be one of the writers who possess the most noticeable postmodernism styles when combining with his practical creation in the thesis. This thesis tries to discuss the variations of Post-modern literature in Wang Xiaobo's novels by analysing the essence of post-modernism and the narrative characteristics of Post-modern literature especially. The variations of narrative characteristics of postmodern literature in Wang Xiaobo's novels, the displacement of the essence of Postmodernism are considered to be the research object in order to discuss the characters and the underlying causes of the variations of Postmodern Literature, how the Postmodern Literature influences Contemporary Chinese literature and how the Chinese literature and the writers as intellectual position under the context of globalization with the parallel research of Comparative Literature as the main method and the influence research as supplementary in this thesis, basing on the postmodern literature as the entry point of the research.In the thesis there are six chapters to discuss the topic of the variations of Postmodern Literature in Wang Xiaobo's novels under the context of 1990s in China. In the introduction, the overview of Wang Xiaobo's study, the research object, the topic, the research methods and the general thoughts of the thesis are presented successively. In chapter one, the trend of Postmodernism and the narrative characteristics of postmodern literature are introduced and carded concisely. In chapter two, the narrative characteristics of postmodern literature in his novels, which are indeterminacy, anti-genres, black humor, zero degree writing, carnivalization, are analyzed via closed reading on Wang Xiaobo's novels with the theory of postmodern fictions. In chapter three, the postmodern narrative variations in Wang Xiaobo's novels and the displacement of the essence of Postmodernism are analyzed. And the conclusion is that the characters of the variation in Wang Xiaobo's novels are filled with the intense sense of reality. In chapter four, the Postmodern variations of Wang Xiaobo's novels with China's reality are determined by the different traditional context between China and Western, the cultural context of 1990s, Wang Xiaobo's unrealistic literary origin and cultivation, and his rational writing standpoint as intellectuals.In the epilogue, the characters of variation of post-modern literature in Wang's novels will be summed up as follows: his novels are the realism literature which has a reference to China's reality under the cover of the noticeable post-modernism style, because Wang Xiaobo has adopted the narrative techniques of Postmodern literature as the rebellious means of the characters, the destructive spirit of Postmodernism destructing the unreasonable reality, however, he still adopt the Enlightenment reason as his thought core and governs his works all the time, all above has made Wang Xiaobo's novels show the intense historical consciousness viz. His novels care about the reality with the aesthetic way of literature itself. In the end, Wang Xiaobo's realistic significance to Chinese literary arena in 1990s is that the modernization of China has not realized. The literary enlightening about modern value has not finished under the context of globalization today. So the intellectuals as the subject of the cultural construction and the reception should absorb the foreign trends of thought such as Postmodern Literature and so on, basing on the constructive standpoint of the theoretical criticism. The mission of the literature caring about the reality that the literature should care about the reality with the ways of literature itself, has not finished so far.
