Hu Shi and Wu Mi are two famous representative of radicalism and conservatism in Chinese contemporary literature. The text just compare their standpoints between traditional culture and western culture, and try to find out the reason of dissimilarity.The text adopts in a method of induction and deduction. We cite abundant datum, compare their attitudes and choices between the two kinds of culture. It also analyses their viewpoints on the way of Chinese culture, not just look at the aspect of their meaning of significance, but also of their localization and antinomy. By this contrast, we can see clerisy were in a dilemma when they faced the two kinds of culture, and willgive a more appropriate estimate.The text combines four departments. In the first department, discuss therelationships between the radicalism and conservatism in culture, and generate of two theories. The second department, we compare Hu Shi with Wu Mi in the mass, including their standpoints between traditional culture and western culture and their viewpoints on the way of Chinese culture. The third department, we compare them in the field of literature, make a reappearance of their discussion on some questions. The fourth department, analyze the reason of this dissimilarity. There are three aspects that noticeable: the education before they went abroad, the reception of western culture when they study abroad and the cause of especial factor in history.
