Research On The Effect That Different Personality Traits And Cognitive Styles Have On Figure Reasoning Level

This research took the relationship between personality and cognition as its angle, exploring different personality traits and cognitive styles had what effect on the figure reasoning level by using the QZPS, EFT and SPM. Then disclosed and testified the relationship between personality factors and reasoning cognition operation.The results showed that 1.Among seven personality dimensions , including Extroversion, kindness, behavioral Styles, Emotionality, Talents, Human Relation , Ways of Life, there was significant difference among the subjects in the high score group and the low score group in the dimension of Emotionality. While there was no significant difference among the subjects in the high score group and the low score group in other six dimensions. 2.The field dependence, the neutral style and the field independence groups 'scores in figure reasoning test , A, C, D, and E group were significant difference with each other, no significant difference with scores in B group. Figure reasoning level of the field independence subjects were apparently better than the field dependence subjects, which indicated that cognitive styles had much effect on figure reasoning level, and was an important variable effecting figure reasoning level. 3. Emotionality had significant correlation with figure reasoning, finding no correlation between the other six dimensions and figure reasoning. The dimensions of Emotionality, figure reasoning total score and scores of C group were significantly relative. But the dimensions of Emotionality were negatively significant correlated with scores of E group, which suggested Emotionality had some certain effect on figure reasoning level. Among the 18 factors of personality, endurance and frank were significant correlation with figure reasoning, but there was no significant correlation between the other 16 factors and figure reasoning. Endurance was positively significant correlated with total score of figure reasoning, and remarkably positively significant correlated with scores of E group, which signified that it exerted positive influence on figure reasoning level. Frank was negatively significant correlated with total score of figure reasoning, and had remarkably negatively significant correlation with scores of C group, which indicated it had negatively influence on figure reasoning level.4. Cognitive styles and total score of figure reasoning were remarkably positively significant correlated, so was scores of A, C, and E group. And also it was positively significant correlated with scores of B group.5. Grade was remarkably positively significant correlated with scores of C, D and E group. Major was remarkably positively significant correlated with scores of total score of figure reasoning, scores of C and E group. No significant correlation between gender and total score of figure reasoning, so was scores of parts of figure reasoning.6. 13.8% variance of figure reasoning level can be explained by Cognitive styles, 3.3% variance can be explained by grade, and 1.4% variance can be explained by Emotionality. Cognitive styles had positive prediction of figure reasoning level and it can explain the most variance of figure reasoning level. Emotionality can explain some variance of figure reasoning, and had a certain prediction to figure reasoning. In sum Cognitive styles and Emotionality were the important variables effecting figure reasoning level.
