A Research On Some Related Problems Of Quan Zhou Islamic Stone Carving

Since 80s of 20th century, the research of the ancient Islamic culture in Quanzhou has been gaining attention from the academic circles. Both domestic and foreign scholars have achieved fruitful result in this field as a whole. However, the effort in the research of the Islamic stone carving art is still far from adequate.This article try to analyze the art features of the ancient Islamic stone carving by examining the style, veining ornament and the craftsman of about 200 extant ancient Islamic carved stones. In this foundation, it also explains the localization of the Quanzhou Islamic stone carving and the influence upon the folk art in South Fujiang. The research analyzes the deep-seated cultural connotations of the Islamic stone carvings, revealing their implicit art characteristics and historical cultural values.Based on previous achievement, further research is conduct in the following aspects: first, to classify the carved veins on the stones and study their ways of ornament in order to establish their counterpart holographic images; second, try to find out the craftsman of the ancient stone carvings and identify their school of crafts by looking up materials and interviewing folk craftsmen; third, to carry on a comprehensive consideration of Quanzhou Islamic stone carvings as one kind of cultural system and inspect its art forms culturally, thus understanding the multicultural characteristic of Quanzhou as part of maritime Silk Road through its various art features.
