Research City Construction In Macao From Opium War To Late Nineteenth Century

Macao is different from any other Chinese cities. Since 16th century, it has become a famous trading harbor in the world. Facing the ever changing of the peripheral circumstances and the states of the world in the late 19th century, the Portuguese Government Macao possesses control power of Macao through demarche. Macao can find her space of existence. However, the authority not only took the means of diplomacy and politics, but dials much to the urban construction. In fact, the city construction in the late 19 century reflected the relationship between the changes of the society and economy and the transition in Macao. This is the advantageous for us to know the progress, the characteristics and the mode of the modem times of Macao. Combining with the contents, the dissertation clarifies four main problems in the late 19th century: the relationship between the development of the neighbor cities and Macao; the deference system; the city construction; the explicitness for the historical position of the city construction.
