Gorky is not only a well-known Russian writer and dramatist, but also a great humanist. His humanism plays a significant role in the history of Russian Literature."In the Lower Depth"is Gorky's most representative and best-written works, in whack the writer described a group of tramps who came down in the world and lived a very miserable life. They lived in a dark and dirty hotel, lump listed mentally and physically. However, they were not content with the life and eager to live a normal life. But due to the cruel reality, their dreams and illusions evaporated into the air. The writer shows his sympathy with the Russians who live at the lowest stratum of the society and his pessimism to the cement situation. Meanwhile, the writer also expressed his longing for a bright and, deal sooty.This drama is complicated, profound and creative. It not only plays an important part in Gorky's drama creation, but also has a great influence on the Russian and the world's dramatic art. The Russian scholars have made many literal comment on it. But there isn't much research done on it in our country. Therefore, I'm trying to do some research with it.This paper focuses on the development of Gorky's humanism. The whole essay can be divided in to four parts.The first part is about Gorky and his creation process. It briefly introduces this writer's hardship he went through while growing up and his literal relaxation and soul activity to build a foundation for the understanding of the drama.The second part is about writing background and perception. It explains the dramas in order to analyze toe writer's humanism. The third part is about the humanism the drama reflects. It analyses the writer's humanism and reveals its complex and significance by presenting the characters, Luke's philosophy, Saying's monologue and the actor's death.First, the characters'inset. By describing those tramps'miserable life, the writer uncovers the cruel reality of Russian society and condemns the evil society indignantly.Second, Luke-the reprehensive of sympathy. The whiter shows his sympathy with the people who live at the bottom of the society through this chatter and arouses their hope and longing for a bright future. At the same time le questioned the comforting philosophy they holds.Third, Satin-man is great! The writer shows his confidence in man's dignity, truth and bright future, by the presentation of the passionate Forth, the death of the actor-the last dignity of the people coming down in the world. The actor suffered from alcoholism killed himself when his fusion fell through and he wakened suddenly. That is his final struggle with the dark world.Part four is about the drama's significance and influence. It briefly analyses the great influence it has on the Russian and the world's Literature, and shows the studying of the drama is of great importance to the exploration of Grouch's humanism.
