In 1996, Xia Zhongyi published his book "ACADEMIC CASES OF THE NEWTHOUGHT TRENDS—APPRAISE THE LITERARY THEORY IN 1980S"(hereinafter referred to as "ACADEMIC CASES OF THE NEW THOUGHT TRENDS"), which mainly about the thought and literary theory of a few scholars during the 1980s , such as Li Zehou, Liu Zaifu, Liu Xiaobo and Liu Xiaofeng. The publication of "ACADEMIC CASES OF THE NEW THOUGHT TRENDS" has a great response in the academic world, for the book concentrates a scholar's thoughts on the trends of the Chinese Enlightenment literary theory at the end of the century.Xia Zhongyi studies the 1980s' Enlightenment literary theory by observing a series of individual cases. On the surface, this kind of case study makes the whole study lack integrity and system. As a matter of fact, it is just a way that the author adopts to do research and write. It is by the study of these individual cases that the author displays the magnificent sight of the Enlightenment literary theory during the 1980s. Xia Zhongyi finished this book 10 years later, but there was no doubt that he also took part in the discussion from an observer's angle of view.The thesis attempts to do a total analysis on Xia Zhongyi's "ACADEMIC CASES OF THE NEW THOUGHT TRENDS " from the viewpoint of enlightenment.This paper attempts to solve two questions:Firstly, summarize Xia Zhongyi's achievements on literary theory study of 1980s by rational dimension, perceptual dimension, and divine dimension.Secondly, promulgates Xia Zhongyi's thought about the Literary Theory of the Enlightenment of the 80's and 90's, which has profound significance and intrinsic enlightenment: which direction the 21st century Chinese Enlightenment should take?The thesis maily expatites in the following aspects:Part I, we'll analyze Xia Zhongyi's question to the Li Zehou's "Accumulation Theory" about "maily contents" and "philosophy measure", try to elaborate that the Literary Theory of the Enlightenment with rationality ,appeared in the 80s' Chinese literary theory can not bring the real enlightenment to the human.Part II, analyze Xia Zhongyi's negative critique to Liu Zaifu's "the literature main body theory", "the theory about character combination" and "national spirit engaging in introspection theory" and Liu Xiaobo's "the perceptual individual standard theory", expounded that in that period, Literary Theory of the Enlightenment with sensibility can not bring the real enlightenment to the human neither.Part III, analyze Liu Xiaofeng's "the poem theology" and Xia Zhongyi's carefully examining and research to Christ theology, elaborates the third dimension of the Chinese literary Theory ideology's of the Enlightenment: discuss divine dimension connotation and the ultimate concern to person as the value foundation of the individual existence.Part IV, reveal the value of the Enlightenment Literary Theory based on divinity for Chinese contemporary literature and culture. Xia Zhongyi's Enlightenment literary thought, which reflects the thought of the Western Language Ontology, the Existentialist Theology and the Heidegger's hermeneutics, speeds the modernization process of Chinese contemporary literary theory.
