In the trend of globalization, with the frequent economic and cultural exchange among countries, foreign language learning becomes more important than ever before. Although foreign language learning has been given great importance to, the effect is not satisfying. Bilingual education emerges in the discussion about how to learn foreign language well. Comparing to some developed countries, the development of bilingual education in China is relatively slow. It is beneficial to Chinese bilingual education to learn and understand the development and experience of other countries'. This thesis aims to explore the successes and problems of Australian bilingual education through the research and analysis of it, any implication to Chinese bilingual education will be a plus.By the way of chronological order and comparison, the paper analyzes the background, history and situation of Australian bilingual education systematically.Chapter 1, a general introduction, examines the aims of study, literature review and introduction of bilingual education. As the background of Australian bilingual education, Chapter 2 introduces Australia and its education system, international bilingual education and types of Australian bilingual education separately. Chapter 3 places emphasis on the history development of Australian bilingual education. Chapter 4 delineates the situation of two kinds of bilingual education in Australia. Chapter 5 is the case study of two schools. In conclusion, Chapter 6 concludes the characteristics and problems of Australian bilingual education and its implication to China as well.
