The Immersion Model of Bilingual Education is a type of bilingual education, originating from Canada. Especially in Quebec, Canada, the immersion program has achieved great success, and it is a successful type of bilingual education. Its theoretical research and successful practice have had an effect on the bilingual education of other countries.Although China and Canada have different circumstances and aims in bilingual education, the introduction and analysis of this type of bilingual education will enable us to learn something from it.The paper discusses the definitions of "bilingual education", "bilingual teaching" and "immersion model of bilingual education". It introduces the background of the immersion model of bilingual education in Canada and the practice of St. Lambert Experiment. It analyzes the types of immersion model of bilingual education, the operation principles, teaching strategies and reasons for its success. It compares the bilingual education in Canada with the bilingual teaching in China in aspects of aim, method, teachers and policy. Finally it states the necessities of carrying out bilingual teaching in our country, analyzes the problems in it and come up with the solution to them.
