The idea of"Intensively studying the traditional and widely absorbing the new"pursued by Hu Hser is the core and clue of the paper. The origin, the background, the practice and the evaluation of the idea are discussed respectively by six parts. Hu Hser and the formation of its idea are simply introduced in the first part; Then the paper analyzes the history background in which the idea was raised (the second part) and the deep influence of King Kungpah on Hu Hser's idea (the third part); In the following fourth and fifth parts, the paper discusses Hu Hser's academic activities and its exploration of painting and theories, both of which are explained by the analysis of the Journal of Hu Hser; Lastly, the criticism of Hu Hser is summarized in the sixth part. The inheritance and development of traditional painting are regarded as Hu Hser's chief contribution while insufficient absorbing of"new knowledge"is its weakness. In brief, it is necessary for us to carry out the study of Hu Hser today. And it is hoped that the paper could be helpful to the further study of Hu Hser in the field.
