Wandering Between The Tradition And The Modern Age

In recent years, along with the rising of feminism trend of thought in literature domain, people start to pay attention to and study the masculine discourse right in the works created by male writers. Thus, the probe on how the culture and consciousness form in the text creation is relatively attenuated. Based on the women image which represents different social status in the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly Schools'novels and combined with the background in which the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly literature originated as well as the writers'confusions when facing the cultural predicament during the process of tradition and modern ideas, this thesis attempts to explain its profound cultural connotation.This thesis is composed of three parts. The first part mainly introduces the historical background of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly Schools'novels and brings forward the tragic consciousness arising from the conflict between the traditional and modern culture, and thereby analyses the women's living state in the tragic consciousness. The second part analyzes the feminine image of different types. The third part, from different angles of the cultural status, the cultural personality and the creation psychology, gives analysis on the reason why the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly writer's dual thought , and the analysis is connected in order from the basis of the feminine image in the text.
