A Study On Holbach's Thought About Humunity

What the ultimate goal that people can realize is, what the human society is, and what kind of a society we want to build, and what theory it based on, all of them should eventually be determined by "people". Because society is composed of people who are not only the main body of social development, but also the ultimate goal of social development, in human's development of idea history, problems about human nature had been the a key theoretical issue and attached great importance to the ancient and modern thinkers. It is also successive and fierce argument of many thinkers. This is mainly attributed to that the theory of human nature contains almost all the humanities and social sciences including political philosophy and the basis of the logic of targeting. It is also because the theory of human nature has given humanistic theories more dignity. China's home-grown humanistic thoughts are very colorful and of great value. But if we can absorb from the West critically with an open mind, it is no doubt that we will further enrich and promote the development of thought of human nature of the local community, optimize the guidance thinking of policies and enhance the efficiency and quality of serving people. The author with the learning attitude, adopting the methods of literature and history studies the major works of Holbach that most embody human nature, analyses the social background and the ideological source, try to grasp his thinking of human nuture. Holbach's thought of human nature that man will always go for happiness as the center, this paper clarify that the material objectivity of human nuture is the basic norms and the base of society and politics.Because man is the cell of a society, so the investigation of human nature not only tells us what the person's essence is, but answer what the regulation of social development is. So, the study on Holbach's human nature thought and the understanding about its value will give us some use for reference when we construct the social harmony society. We should deeply understand the thought of people oriented, solve the antinomy of a society, construct a service foremost government and promote a good and quickly development of a society.Chapter 1 on this thesis briefly introduced the main experience about Holbach, summarized the social environment and idealistic base about the human nature thought, and explained the idealistic and cultural background of the foundation of his thought. Chapter 2 elaborated the materialistic base on Holbach's human nature and natural law thought. Chapter 3 discussed Holbach's materialistic human nature, and this part is the core of his thought. In this part, Holbach mainly discussed the essence of people who pursue interest and evade harm. He thought that self protection and pursuing happiness was the motivity of human being's deed. At the same time, he also discussed the negative side of human nature, explained the puzzle Dom of a man's being, and also the relationship among human nature, society and morality. He thought that the human's essence was the origin of man's social subsistence. A man's behavior including moral action was the representation of pursuing happiness and self-protection. Chapter 4 discussed the value tropism of his human nature thought, namely his viewpoint on social politics. He emphasized the consistent aspect on economy construction, political development and human nature. At last, the paper briefly discussed the limitation and positive meaning on Holbach's human nature law thought.
