Gabriel Fauré(1845-1924) whose composing style had great influence to many composers of the early 20th century, is one of the most excellent contemporary composers in France. His innovation on the harmonic languages influenced composing thoughts of the younger generation. His composing character of implicit and elegant, especially in lieder composing, had made great contribution to the composing and development of lieder in France as well as the whole Europe of the 19th century. He was considered, therefore, as "Schuman of France".Five Songs from Venice, is an important work of his middle period, and is one of the most representative works in his summit time as well.This dissertation is composed of four chapters: ChapterⅠ, a brief survey of the lieder composing in France and his works' position in the history of lieder composing; ChapterⅡ, briefly introducing his life, all the parts of lieder composing, as well as the composing context of Five Songs from Venice; ChapterⅢand ChapterⅣare the most important parts, discussing systematically from the perspective of the ways of harmonic dealing with important structures, the analysis to the form structure, the interweavements of melody and piano, the perfect combination of poem and music, the implicit and elegant singing style, the deduction, the meaning to vocal teaching, and so on.At last, summarize the composing character of Five Songs from Venice, the deduction as well as its meaning to the vocal teaching.
