The new National Curriculum Syllabus for English Language Teaching,published in 2001,advocates the use of Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT).Since then, educational circles of our country has begun to lay more emphasis on it and a lot of research has been performed by teachers in junior high schools,senior high schools and universities in order to guide the classroom language teaching.However,the research in this particular area still remains a blank in college students' language teaching.So, according to the current situation of students' language learning in our college,this thesis tries to find out a practical and effective way to improve the oral competence of college students gradually on the basis of the theory of the task-based approach.Research methods such as experiments,questionnaires and analysis tend to be used to improve the teaching methods so as to adapt to the current situation of college students' language learning.Through this research,concepts of the teacher-student relationship are expected to be changed.In addition,both teachers and students can benefit from carrying out the approach.The thesis consists of four parts,starting with an introduction to the background and purpose of the research,the study goes on to the literature review to discuss the conception and the related research of task-based approach,the patterns and the possibility for the research are demonstrated in chapter one.Chapter Two deals with the designing of the tasks and the practice of the task-based approach in college students' spoken English teaching and learning while Chapter Three explores the contrast of the research data and the results of the research,and Chapter Four is the conclusion of the thesis.
