Autonomy is also called independence. It means that a person depends upon oneself to make decisions that conform to the social norms. It is also refers to the tendency that the person achieves their rational objects by self-regulation. The strong autonomy of the children who can independent thinking and the self-evaluation is better and more objective. They show an appropriate degree of self-confidence, also they play well in social adaptation and interpersonal relationship.The development of children's autonomy is influenced by the characteristics of their physiological development and the environment; one of the very important factors is children's temperament. Temperament is the mental activity that only human have. It's also the personality character that children perform firstly. Temperament plays a critical role in children's development.The research on children's temperament can be divided into two different perspectives: one is on temperament dimensions, another is on temperament type. What the temperament in this study is mainly temperament type, non-inhibitory type and inhibitory type.The characteristic of inhibitory type children look like nervous and anxious in strange circumstances; But, non-inhibitory type of children feel happy and loosen in strange circumstances.Now, about the research on children's temperament and autonomy hasn't have a complete study. This research found that between the temperament type and autonomy exist causal relationship.This study based on 30 3-year-old children. First, we examined the temperament type of the children by the stranger situation. Then, we discussed relation between the temperament and the autonomy of 3-year-old children by empirical methods.The conclusions are as follows:(1) There was significant positive correlation between autonomy and temperament. (2) There was significant positive correlation between self-reliance and temperament.(3) There was not significant negative correlation between self-control and temperament.(4) There was not significant positive correlation between self-assertion and temperament.(5) Children's temperament affects their autonomy. The temperament type and autonomy exist causal relationship.
