The Chinese National Cultural Characteristics Of Chinese Character And Chinese Character Education

With the exposition of Chinese characterå’Œto the whole world in the opening ceremony of the 29^th Olympic Games,the charm of Chinese character not only shocked millions of foreigners greatly,but threw a new light on our own character for the part of Chinese people.More clearly, Chinese character is an important carrier of Chinese culture,and what need our exploring is the cultural characteristics behind the structure of Chinese character.Putting these characteristics to Chinese character education for foreigners will increase the efficiency of Chinese character recognition and popularize Chinese character across the world.On the basis of the relationship between Chinese culture and Chinese character,this thesis is concerned with the influence of Chinese national cultural characteristics on the way the structure of Chinese character is clipped and formed,which results in the Chinese national cultural characteristics of Chinese character different from phonetics-based languages: directness,systematicity and iconicity.As for the teaching of Chinese character recognition in elementary school of China,we hold the view that teaching strategies are decided according to the teaching and learning stages as well as the Chinese national cultural characteristics.That is to say,direct teaching method is employed in primary stage;iconicity-analysis method in developmental stage;semantic-understanding method in acquisition stage.Due to the practicability in the purpose of students learning,Chinese character education for foreigners tends to teach them only the strokes and structure of Chinese character and separate the close association between Chinese character and Chinese culture,resulting in its relatively lagging condition.We assert that Chinese character education for foreigners should attach great importance to Chinese character cultural characteristics,explore its cultural connotations,pave the way for foreign language learnersto effectively learn Chinese characters and get to know several thousand years of Chinese culture.Only in this way can we popularize the Chinese character and Chinese national culture worldwide, critically inherit the essence of ancient Chinese character studies,and link to reality by taking modern Chinese character as orientation.
