Taking the literature articles in the Chinese textbooks that published from 1990 to 2008 as the researching object, which aim at Overseas Chinese Learners of Intermediate and Advanced level, in the theory guidance of theoretical discussion,qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, objects interviews as an assisting method, this thesis investigates the general editorial condition of four types of articles, which are literature classics,non-classical works of literature,those that have obvious literature feature and non-literary works in the textbooks mentioned above. The main problems on the focus in this thesis are the quantity of the four types of articles mentioned above and the changes in the editorial condition in different periods of time, and the reasons that caused the changes. And according to relevant theories in aspects of social linguistics and cognitive psychology, the thesis sums up the roles that the former two types of articles play in the Chinese Teaching of Intermediate and Advanced levels, what objectives should be achieved, and what principles ought to be complied with when they are compiled in the Chinese textbooks for Overseas Chinese Learners of Intermediate and Advanced level, which provide some reference for the edition of literature articles in the Chinese textbooks for Overseas Chinese Learners of Intermediate and Advanced level.According to the investigation, the proportion of literature articles in the textbooks for Intermediate and Advanced level Chinese learners is bigger than the opposite ones. However, it is obvious that the proportion of literature classics is decreasing, while the proportion of non-classical works of literature and those that have obvious literature feature has been increased in the overall.In fact, the literature classics has a unique role in the teaching of Chinese to Overseas Chinese Learners of Intermediate and Advanced level, the objective of the edition and teaching of this type of articles should be: help the Oversea students to build up the psychological background and emotional foundation similar to the native speakers, achieve the psychological resources which have far-reaching effects in the native speakers, and naturally obtain some traditional cultural knowledge at the same time. The edition of such works should be careful, not to have strong characteristics of times or personality, while keeping influence on learners.For non-classic works of literature, the most important goal is to enhance learners' appropriateness of language, expose learners to varieties of specific contexts in real life in target language, complement their inadequacy of the language, enhance their sensitivity to the target language and their ability to make comprehensive use of the language. The edition of such articles should comply with the principles of the language specification the contents of a certain thought and highlighting the common feelings of humanity in common culture.Until now, researching achievements on literature articles in the textbooks for Intermediate and Advanced level Chinese learners is seldom seen in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Thus this thesis could be regarded as the first attempt in this field.
