In recent several decades,teaching Chinese as a foreign language(TCFL) has got a flourishing development.However,teaching Chinese character to foreigners(TCCF) has always been a weak link in TCFL.In order to discuss why Chinese character is hard to learn and why people think less of teaching Chinese character,we can think about the relations between language and writing.Because of being effected by western linguistics during teaching process,writing has been regarded as language's appendage,which is secondary,for a long time.That teaching idea has got a negative influence on TCCF.This thesis orients from the present situation of TCCF and tries to find out the reason why Chinese character is hard to learn and teach,proposes a new teaching mode through discussing the relations between Chinese character and Chinese language,then integrates teaching methods with teaching experiences to extract the reasonable factors,and gives some teaching suggestions.Firstly,we analyze the present situation of TCCF.At present,because of the deviation in teaching idea,the differences between ideographic writing and phonetic writing haven't been paid enough attention.And no independent lesson has been set for TCCF.The teaching methods are monotonous,just teaching Chinese characters by following the text,so that the property and particularity of Chinese character is neglected.Secondly,to study TCCF,we discuss teaching idea,mode and methods.In teaching idea, TCCF should be emphasized.Then we can establish a relatively independent lesson for TCCF as a new teaching mode,according to the rule and particularity of Chinese character.The form,pronunciation and meaning of Chinese character form one system.During teaching,we can begin with analyzing the form of Chinese character,regard teaching components of Chinese character as the central part with teaching strokes and the whole character at the same time,and connect the form of Chinese character to the pronunciation and meaning.Besides, the word-building ability of Chinese character should be an important part in TCCF.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes the main content of this thesis and points out the shortages.
