Traffic is ties and bridges for the human's communication of material and culture in different regions. Commercial route is the artery of economic development and social progress. The economic growth and rise and decline of town are connected with transportation network. The development in the region of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai has played an important role for long Chinese history, however ,due to the restriction of natural conditions and the impacts of development of human environmental in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai has lagged far behind western regions in modern times. From the establishment of Republic of China to the eve of Anti-Japanese War, the economic development in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai has made great progress , especially with the development and vicissitude of commercial route in modern times, formed a convenient network of sea transportation, injected energy into the economic development, greatly promoted the circulation of commodities in this region, offered the chance to development of the professional town, and advanced the development. Of commodity economy in the region of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai.This paper will be based on local history ,and refer to the series modern north-west book of travels as well as parts of information on investigations and studies of Republic of China , regarding the changing of commercial route and distribution of town as the breakthrough point, to study the distribution of commercial route and town, also will show the relationship between continuance of traditional modern commercial route and the distribution of commercial route in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai. The special natural environment in this region has created theirs unique land and water transport network and has formed town networks of this region. Not only the models but also the Chinese complicated society, commercial traffic connected with the development of town ; Especially ,the major commercial and trading center was the key position of water and land transportation in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai., so the factors of zone was very important to development of local economy.In Chinese history, modern and contemporary economy in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai. Developed slowly, being marked by obvious political and military feature, being influenced by lots of composite factor and being restricted by the factor of natural environment. Learning from history, we should comprehend the process of ups and downs of economic development in the regions of Gansu, Ningxia and Qinghai to provide useful lessons for the development of the west of china in the new period...
