| The meanings of color words may be different from those of each language depending on different countries. According to some factors like local areas, nations, and times, the connotative and denotative cultural meanings can also be various (different).If we can't grasp this linguistic phenomena, we may make some mistakes of taking our own cultural recognition for other nations' cultures.This can have some negative influence on numerous fields like politics, economy, and diplomacy in the modern society that has a tendency to the globalization. The range of color meanings linguistically is widely extended with the development of scientific development. The international exchanges are much activated owing to globalization. Accordingly, linguistic research on color words is required in a higher dimension, just not limited to the color words in our own language, but needed to study those in other languages in parallel.In spite of belonging to the similar cultural basis, Korean and Chinese color words have either distinctive or common features in meaning, because of the different ways of thoughts and behavioral aspects between Korea and China. From the viewpoint of comparative linguistics, this tries not only to basically investigate the systemic structures of color words in Korean and Chinese, but also to study their difference meanings in depth.Chapter One as introduction clarifies the goals of the study, examines some previous studies, and establishes the range and methodology of this study. Chapter Two looks into the formation of the color words in the two languages Chapter Three, the central part of this study, carries out a comparative study on the five common color words in the Korean and Chinese in order: etymologies, basic meanings, associative Among the common phenomenon in the symbolic meanings of the 5 color words, the Korean color words have more negative meanings than those of the Chinese words, Thins can bo referred to being related to the Confucian way of thought that has long affected Korean; spiritual word, life styles, and Korean's inherent meanings of colors.This has tried to carry out a comparative study of color words in Korean and Chinese on the morphology and semantics. If we extend this to range of research with grammatical and pragmatic aspects, we can make more completely comparative study of the color words of the two languages, which seems to be carried out in the world. Lastly, Chapter Four, the central part of this study, carrues out a comparative study on the five common color words in the Korean and Chinese in order: symbolic meanings in the same way between the two languages.
