In 2008, Beijing successfully hosted the 29th Olympic Games, which gave the deep impression and valuable memory to the people all over the world. The torch of Beijing Olympic Games, auspicious cloud, adopted the perfect combination of the traditional cultural element and modern design concept, expressing the Chinese people look forward to a harmonious spirit of the Olympic Games and delivered it to the whole world. Xiangyun means auspicious cloud, came from the Chinese traditional auspicious motifs, and also contains the meaning of harmony and auspice. Chinese traditional auspicious motifs is an important part of traditional Chinese culture, and closely linked to the needs of general public and their pursuit of life in the process of development. Chinese traditional auspicious motifs express Chinese people' s particular ideological and spiritual sustenance, and always accompanied by the production and living of Chinese people, it is the perfect reflection of the aesthetic ideal and practical functions. Chinese auspicious motifs have left us a lot of valuable classic content, which formed the basis and origin of the modern design art. We should attach importance to the heritage of traditional auspicious motifs and promote it. The aesthetic ideas, auspicious meaning as well as the modeling methods should be used in the modern design, we should also understand and refine these traditional elements, to melt them, so that the design will full of rich Chinese national characteristics, then Chinese design could have unique, personalized features which will make sharp contrast to the style of western modern design.The process of globalization made the whole world is becoming increasingly closer, which formed a kind of "global culture." In the context of modernization, the design was set in the context of globalization, and has ushered in a multi-symbiotic new design ideas. Multi-cultural conflicts, collisions, fusion, made the nationalization and globalization became the two major issues of the contemporary design, which the national identity of design has been increasingly emphasized by people. In the context of globalization, how to carry forward the traditions and ethnic characteristics are the problems of designers need to solve. The re-use of fine traditional motifs is an important means to demonstrate national characteristics in the modern design. Without culture, there is no nation! The traditional auspicious motifs is an integral part of national culture, and its value can be imagined. In addition, auspicious motifs contain wealth of the educational value, the ethics and morality concept implied can bring great educational imperceptible effect, and its unique aesthetic value of art could decorate people's lives.This thesis studies the value reflection of traditional auspicious motifs in modern design, thus to identify the relationships between modern art design with culture of traditional auspicious motifs. The thesis wish to fully explore and use the wealth, then to achieve the perfect combination of the traditional auspicious motifs and modern design in ways of form and implication, thus to create the modern design with Chinese characteristics. Its core is to help people live better. All good things that people think will be reflected in the auspicious culture which embodies the people's recognition. The good things also reflects human longings, the pursuit of good luck and happy life of people, which symbolize, art and socialize the aspirations and goals of people, satisfied the psychological need, constituted a timeless theme and beautiful picture of auspicious culture.This thesis consists of five sections, with corresponding illustrations, hope to have a more direct intuitive interpretation.
