Self-efficacy beliefs are defined as"people's judgments of their capabilities to organize and execute courses of action required to attain designated types of performances"(Bandura, 1986). The theory of self-efficacy has a great influence on the educational field as soon as it was proposed. And it has made great achievement in many fields. At the same time, with the rapid development of computer and network, it, as an assistant means of teaching, finds a broad use in foreign language instruction. Computer-and-network-based instruction will be a new approach to college English teaching, and it will be the development orientation of the reform of English teaching and learning in colleges and universities. All of these development tendencies can be proved by College English Curriculum Requirements issued by Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.156 students of Qingdao Technological University were investigated in this study. Experiment, questionnaire, interview and observation were administered as measures of students'efficacy in the new teaching model. Through the analysis of the data collected, it is found that the new teaching model can enhance the students'self-efficacy. On the basis of the statistical analysis performed, the thesis elaborates the strategies of enhancing students'self-efficacy in the setting of the new teaching model. It also proposes some countermeasures by adopting a humanistic approach so that the students can confidently participate in the activities in the class in order to learn English well. At last, the author points out the limitations of the study and reflections on the influence of self-efficacy in the new teaching model.
