On the basis of the previous studies, this paper mainly contrasts and analyzes the ways of negative expression in Chinese and Vietnamese. This study focuses on the normal and special ways of negation, in order to provide the suggestions about teaching. And they can also improve the efficiency in teaching finally.The paper consists of six chapters. Chapter one is a introduction. This part points out reasons of the title, previous studies, methods and the sources of language materials about this paper.In chapter two the general situations of negative expression are discussed. Firstly, this part proposes the study ranges of this paper. These are based on the definitions and classifications of previous studies. Then this chapter describes the relationships between negative expression, eastern culture and pragmatic problems in the two languages.Chapter three contrasts the marked negative expression. It contrasts the relative negative marked words and the sentence types which include the words.Chapter four demonstrates the comparison of unmarked negative expression. Although many sentences don't use the marked negation, they still can convey negative meanings in the communication process. In connection with it, this part studies and contrasts the sentences which were mentioned before. There are two purposes. First of all it wants to find out the usage situations of phonetic sound intonation, interrogative pronoun, interrogative tone and characteristic words, in order to express negative meanings. The second goal is to find the similarities and differences in their politeness indications.According to the positive results in chapter three and four, the fifth chapter summaries the traits and structural forms about negative expression between Chinese and Vietnamese. The purpose is to understand their similarities and differences.The last chapter is a conclusion. This part proposes many suggestions on teaching.
