Observation Of The Multifunction Word "就是" From Several Perspectives

In modern Chinese,"就是"is a common word with an extremely high use frequency. It has a complex function and can be used as an adverb, conjunction, and so on. Its use as an adverb takes up the principal position. "jiushi" may be divided into several sub-classes used as an adverb, including the scope adverb, the modality verb and the connection adverb. This thesis has a comprehensive research of the use of the first three sub—classes according to the syntactic patterns, the semantic orientation, the weight, the focus, the subjective-quantity and other aspects of the adverb "jiushi".The thesis is composed of seven parts in all, and the detailed Contents as follows:The Introduction introduces the object, purpose, significance, methods of the research and sources of language material briefly.Chapter One summarizes the research achievement of the multi-functional adverb "jiushi" from our predecessors in three aspects of synchronous and diachronic study of the adverb "jiushi" and the explanation of the adverb "jiushi" in a lexicographical work.Chapter Two studies the scope adverb "jiushi" according to its definition in two aspects of quantity and scope as well as combining the syntactic patterns of the scope adverb "jiushi". We also discusses the adverb "jiushi" and the expression of subjective quantity, analyzes the cause of semanteme of the adverb "jiushi" when expressing "subjective little quantity" and "subjective great quantity". In this foundation explains the adverb "jiushi" each usage between intrinsic connections in the single-sentence scope.Chapter Three studies the modality adverb "jiushi" in the three aspects of its syntax and its distribution of sentence categories, modality transmission and the marked topic focus and we are also compare the differences between the two format "X jiu X" and"X jiushi X"Chapter Four we study the Semantic of "jiushi"and the internal development of semantic.Chapter five we discuss the usages of modal particle in the end of sentences "jiushi" and "jiushile".The last part is the concluding remarks, and we sum up the opinions and point out the deficiencies of the thesis.
