Study On Adverb "Jiu" In Hongloumeng

The language used in Hongloumeng is a typical representative of the interim from Contemporary Chinese to Modern Chinese, which symbolizes the threshold of modern Chinese. However, few people have done the research on Hongloumeng from the perspective of linguistics, thus, there is necessity and possibility for us to step further, "jiu" sentence, as are presentative of comparative sentences, has been paid close attention to in the field of grammar. There are more than 2000 "jiu" words in Hongloumeng, however, systemic and comprehensive study can hardly be found, the study of which can help us to understand the development of "jiu" sentence of modern Chinese.The thesis is composed of five parts in all, and the detailed contents as follows:Chapter one introduces the object, purpose, signficance, methods of the researeh.Chapter two studies the scope adverb "jiu" according to its definition in two aspects of quantity and scope as well as combining the syntactic patterns of the scope adveb "jiu".Chapter three analyzes the time definition of non-perfect events and perfect events from the time adverb "jiu". The time adveb "jiu" shows complexity when it has the meaning of time named "continuity". It can be used not only for perfect events, but for non-perfect events. This chapters pecially discusses the use of the meaning of time named "coniinuit".Chapter four studies the modality adverb "jiu" in three aspects of its syntax and its distribution of sentence categories, modality transmission and the marked to picfoeus.The last part is the concluding remarks, and we sum up the opinions and point out the deficiencies of the thesis.
