The modal adverb "Nandao" is the key point in the teaching of foreign Chinese vocabulary,and it has always been a difficulty in practical teaching.However,the current researches on the modal adverb "Nandao"are most focused on its semantic evolution,pragmatic function and the ontological theory research of other modal adverbs and are therefore lagging behind the development of foreign Chinese teaching practice,consequently leading to the disconnection between theoretical research and teaching practice and unsatisfied effect of learning modal adverb"Nandao".The ontological research of the modal adverb "Nandao" is scattered and not comprehensive as the semantic evolution of "Nandao" and the relationship between "Nandao" and rhetorical questions are more fully researched,but not from the perspective of semantic pragmatics.Based on the corpus from the National Language Committee and previous studies,this paper would,from the perspectives of semantics,grammar,pragmatic function and pragmatic constraints,analyze the grammatical performance of the "Nandao" sentence.analyze the grammatical performance of the"Nandao" sentence is used in Non-type rhetorical question(not "yes or not")to express strange,unexpected,incomprehensible,and even skeptical emotions about the content of the question.There are two main types of grammatical expressions in the "does"sentence,the first is the three basic syntactic structures of "Nandao" and their corresponding tone level sequences,the second is the combination of the grammatical form and grammatical meaning of the "Nandao" rhetorical question.The grammatical functions of "Nandao" rhetorical question mainly include the functions of presupposition,emphasizing,restricting the referential and changing the nature of the interrogative sentence,and will summarize the modal adverb "Nandao" on the basis of the semantic grammatical function including tone,presupposition,style,etc.After completing the ontological research of the modal adverb "Nandao",this paper will analyze and summarize the types and reasons for misunderstanding of modal adverb "Nandao" on the basis of the HSK dynamic composition corpus of the Linguistics Academy of Beijing Language and Culture and the misunderstanding corpus of Jinan University.The error type of the modal adverb "Nandao" mainly are:"Nandao" mixed with other words,or missing and error added"Nandao".The reasons for misunderstanding of modal adverb "Nandao" include complexity of semantic and pragmatic of the modal adverb "Nandao",learning strategy of the learner,Negligence in teaching.Besides,on the basis of the the types and reasons for misunderstanding of modal adverb"Nandao",this paper would provide suggestions for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Suggestions on the preparation of the modal adverb "Nandao"textbook include improving the integrity and accuracy of the content of the textbook and strengthen the practicality and operability of after-school exercises.Besides,explain in detail the semantics and functions of the modal adverb"Nandao",focus on cultivating learners'sense of language,and attach importance to text extension training are very important for Chinese teachers.
