In the past years, the college English writing teaching has been bothered by the problem of "being time-consuming and inefficient". To solve this problem is an important subject faced by the teachers at all levels. Therefore, to study the effectiveness of college English writing teaching has certain practical significance to solving this problem.This thesis is based on the "Social Constructivist Approach" presented by Marion Williams and Robert L. Burden in 1997. The principles of the Approach include:The knowledge is constructed by the individuals themselves rather than conveyed by others; such a construction is a result of social interaction occurring in the exchange with others. The Approach has referred to the essences of humanism, and attaches much importance to the all-round development of the learners. That is, except the cognitive development, there are also the developments of autonomous learning abilities characterized by metacognition and the development of personality.Based on this approach, the thesis classifies the effectiveness of college English writing teaching into four factors, i.e., the teacher, the student, the process and the environment, discusses the interaction among these four factors during college English writing teaching, demonstrates the interaction among such factors in practice, and presents the strategies and measures to be adopted for achieving effective teaching of college English writing.The thesis is divided into five parts:Introduction. In this part, the causes of the study are given, the concepts defined, the literature clarified, and the thoughts and approaches of the study presented.Partâ… includes a discussion on the theoretical basis of the effectiveness of college English writing teaching, which retrieves to the theories in EFL learning, college English writing teaching and effective teaching.Partâ…¡is an analysis on the factors affecting the effectiveness of college English writing teaching, which covers the aspects of teacher, learner, process and environment.Partâ…¢is a practical exploration based on the beyond analysis, which analyzes the application of the beyond theories and factors into actual teaching, and presents the strategies of achieving the effectiveness in college English writing teaching.Conclusion. It retrieves to the whole research process, summarizes the viewpoints presented, and points out the direction of further study.
